How to sell a car on finance and what you’ll need

Once you’ve had your online valuation, you’ll need to prepare a few things before your appointment.

The key thing is a dated letter from your finance company detailing exactly how much is left on your agreements. We will then take this into account when you come in for your appointment.

It’s important that you prepare for your appointment by bringing:

  • Your vehicle
  • The V5 logbook
  • The service book & handbook
  • Spare keys
  • Any accessories like the locking wheel nut
  • Your MOT certificate - if applicable
  • Your ID and proof of address
  • A letter from your finance company

This will allow us to complete the sale and process your payment the next working day.

Our handy guide will help you prepare and let you know what you need to sell your car.

What cars can I sell?

GoodBye Car accepts the majority of vehicles from a large number of manufacturers. You can find a full list of manufacturers we buy including the likes of Ford, Volkswagen, Citroen and many more. You can also use the valuation tool to find your specific car.

In terms of agreements, you may struggle to sell a car on Hire Purchase (HP) or Personal Contract Purchase (PCP), however, you can ask the finance company for permission. This is because until the car is paid off, the lender is the owner of the vehicle.

If you’re unsure whether you can sell your vehicle, speak to our team for some advice.
